Cette norme est techniquement équivalente à l'ASTM D 3336 "Standard test method for life of lubricating greases in ball bearings at elevated temperatures", mais ne reprend comme matériel que la broche dite "Navy". La présente norme est aussi décrite dans FEDERAL TEST METHODS STANDARD N° 791 B 331-2 et dans AIR 1650/A.
